Walker Buehler’s strikeout of Alex Verdugo to end the World Series could have potentially been the final pitch he threw as a Dodger.
The Athletics expressed their interest with the two-time World Series champion, but Buehler denied any interest in playing for them due to the fact that the team is set to begin a three-year stay in Sacramento at Sutter Heath Park, a stadium that holds a maximum capacity of just 14,014.
It is the same team which stadium held the Dodgers’ World Series winning Game 5, the Yankees, that has mutual interest with him, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com.
“I’ve been told there is at least some mutual interest between Walker Buehler and the New York Yankees, and while that would an amazing storyline. Certainly it’s not unprecedented that you would see someone join a team that they vanquished in the World Series the previous year.”
Last offseason, Teoscar Hernández’s top two suitors were the Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox, and his decision to sign with Los Angeles paid off immensely. For a second year in a row, both the Dodgers and Boston are in the mix for the reigning Home Run Derby champion, with Morosi indicating how the slugger would be a great addition should they miss out on the Juan Soto sweepstakes.
“If Teoscar doesn’t go back to Dodger Stadium for 2025… I believe he will go to the American League East, and he has phenomenal career numbers at Fenway Park… If Juan Soto signs with the Yankees or the Mets, get ready to listen to a lot of conversation about Teoscar and the Boston Red Sox.”
Morosi was also the first to report that the Dodgers and utility man Tommy Edman are in preliminary discussions involving a contract extension.
Despite playing in just 37 games in the regular season, Edman’s torrid NLCS awarded him the series MVP, and he continued his excellent play in the World Series by slashing .294/.400/.588 with a home run, two doubles, and two stolen bases in the five game series.
Former Dodger Kyle Farmer is heading back to the National League West, this time inking a deal with the Colorado Rockies. Farmer spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Twins, most recently playing in 107 games last year with a .214/.293/.353 slash line, five home runs and 25 RBIs with an 85 wRC+.
