Arsenal land huge Bukayo Saka boost for Tottenham North London Derby as best-case scenario emerges

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will have been very happy with what he saw from Bukayo Saka in England’s Nations League clash against Finland. Three days on from playing the full 90 minutes of the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland, Saka was again named in Lee Carsley’s starting XI.

Declan Rice was also given another start after scoring and grabbing an assist for his country over the weekend. Angel Gomes was his midfield partner for this clash with Rice again playing 90 minutes, though that will not overly concern Arteta as he is suspended for this weekend’s North London Derby against Tottenham.

Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber also featured on Tuesday evening, for Germany and the Netherlands respectively, with the two nations playing out a 2-2 draw. As for England, following a quiet opening 45 minutes, a brace from Harry Kane sealed another 2-0 victory.

In between Kane’s strikes on his 100th cap, Saka was replaced by Noni Madueke in the 66th minute after a relatively quiet display by his own standards. That being said, according to FotMob, Saka took four shots with one of those on target while also creating one big chance. He also took three corners.

The big boost for Arteta will certainly be that he was not fouled once, further reducing any chance of him picking up an injury. Saka also being brought off with just under half an hour to play is arguably the best-case scenario with enough minutes in the tank to keep him sharp but not to the point where he would feel overworked or fatigued.

Considering the injury updates the Gunners have been handed over the last two weeks, Saka remaining fit will be very welcome. In the first part of the international break, Riccardo Calafiori picked up an injury in action for Italy against France which saw him return to London Colney early.

A few days later, club captain Martin Odegaard rolled his ankle during Norway’s Nations League encounter with Austria. With concern already high, Odegaard was then spotted boarding a plane back to England with crutches and now reports claim he could be absent for at least three weeks.

Not only will that see the 25-year-old miss Sunday’s clash against Tottenham but also the huge Premier League title clash against Manchester City the following weekend. The Gunners will also seemingly need to navigate their first Champions League encounter against Atalanta on Thursday, September 19 without Odegaard.
