Mavs on the Move: Dallas Mavericks Linked With Shocking Move for Miami Heat Superstar
The Dallas Mavericks made it to the NBA Finals last season but failed to cause the Boston Celtics any problems, as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown finally clinched the Championship. The Mavs went back to the drawing board in the summer and signed Klay Thompson following his Golden State Warriors exit.
Klay no longer looks like the player who was one of the central pieces of the Warriors’ dynasty though. He is averaging 12.7 points while shooting 36% from three-point range and 37.9% from the field.
That is not what the Mavericks would have been hoping for when they signed Klay. And if he continues to struggle, could the organization try to engineer a move for another superstar?
According to Michael Scotto in HoopsHype: “Within league circles, there’s been quiet discourse about whether the Houston Rockets or Dallas Mavericks will eventually land Butler, a Texas native, should he and Miami decide to part ways.”
Jimmy Butler’s future in South Beach has been a topic of discussion surrounding the Miami Heat for a long time now. He has a player option for next season and there have been suggestions that he could be leaning towards opting out and testing the market instead.
In the summer, there were rumors that Butler wanted a contract extension from the Heat. Ultimately, he was not handed one though.
It is believed that the Heat wanted Butler to prove his fitness before considering giving him any long-term extension.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Butler has continued to struggle with fitness issues and already missed quite a few games this season.
On the other hand, there is no reason for the Mavs to rush into any decision when it comes to a potential move for Butler. Even with Klay struggling, they are currently 14-8 in a highly competitive West, sitting third in the conference table.
