Tigers Steal Dodgers Thunder: $42 Million Deal Lures World Series Hero to…
The Los Angeles Dodgers could lose some pieces this offseason.
Los Angeles already has done a good job and bolstered the starting rotation by signing two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell to a mammoth $182 million deal. This contract is great for the Dodgers, but could push others out.
Fellow All-Star Walker Buehler is available on the open market and there are only so many spots to go around on the Dodgers. Will he return? Maybe. Nothing can be ruled out at this point. But, other teams surely will show interest.
The Athletic’s Jim Bowden predicted he will end up signing with the Detroit Tigers and projected him to land a two-year, $42 million deal.
“Detroit Tigers – Walker Buehler, RHP (two years, $42 million with player opt-out),” Bowden said. “The Tigers could use a veteran starter to help solidify their rotation, and Buehler, who comes with a history of postseason success, would be a good fit. After two Tommy John surgeries, the 30-year-old remains a high medical risk, but one that’s worth taking given his top-of-the-rotation talent when he’s pitching at his peak.
“His impressive postseason performance should get him at least $42 million in guaranteed money, but he also deserves an opt-out clause to go back on the market next offseason if he stays healthy and pitches well. Buehler posted an inflated 5.38 ERA over 16 regular-season starts last season, but his 10-shutout-inning-stretch over the NLCS and World Series showed how dominant he can be when healthy.”
Buehler has been amazing for the Dodgers and was a postseason hero for the team en route to the World Series this fall. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him leave the organization.
