Something just dawned on us. The man who one day breaks Saquon Barkley’s franchise record for rushing yards may need to do so by eclipsing 2,000 yards. Think about that for a second. In his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles, he’s established himself as a new standard. Now, that standard extends itself to the record book.
LeSean McCoy is Philly’s all-time leading rusher. He landed there thanks to earning three of of his six Pro Bowl nominations with the Birds. He also earned two First-Team All-Pro nods (2011, 2013) and notched the best single-season yardage total in the history of this great organization.
He now tips his cap to Saquon Barkley who has taken Shady’s record for himself. McCoy’s 1,607-yard outburst in 2013 stood as the best we’ve seen by an Eagle for 11 years until now. Saquon is at the top of the mountain.
Saquon Barkley now owns the highest single-season rushing yards total in Eagles history.
As days and weeks pass, MVP conversations including Saquon Barkley continue. You may have heard. His and Eric Dickerson’s names are often being used in the same sentences.
Barkley is closing in on history. He has a great chance of breaking Dickerson’s record for the most rushing yards by any NFL player in a single season. The Hall of Famer’s mark stands at 2,105 big ones.
To reach that level, Barkley was obviously going to have to shatter the Eagles’ franchise record. He entered the 2024-25 season’s 14th week needing 108 yards rushing to pass Shady and claim Philly’s single-season rushing record.
He wrapped that up early in the third quarter, and he did so in style. His 17th carry of the game catapulted the Eagles past the first down marker and vaulted Saquon atop the Eagles’ record books.
