NFL’s Best Show Respect: Mahomes’ Post-Game Words to C.J. Stroud Set a High Standard

Saturday’s game between the Chiefs and Texans was the first time we’ve been able to see Patrick Mahomes and C.J. Stroud go head-to-head in a regular season game.

Mahomes and KC ended up taking the W in Round 1, 27-19. But it sounds like the three-time Super Bowl champ is already looking forward to potentially seeing Stroud again in the not too distant future.

After the game Mahomes had a message for last season’s Rookie of the Year — who threw two touchdowns and two interceptions in Houston’s loss.

“Hope we see y’all in the playoffs,” the two-time MVP told C.J. Before adding, “Prayers for Tank” in reference to the awful injury Texans receiver Tank Dell suffered to his knee earlier in the day.

“Appreciate that. God bless you, bro,” Stroud replied.

C.J. further spoke on the interaction during his postgame press conference where he was very appreciative of Mahomes’ kind words about his friend and teammate.

“That’s amazing,” Stroud said. “That shows his heart and what kind of man of God he is. I pray for him and his family as well. That’s very nice of him. That shows what type of heart he has.”

Mahomes was 28-of-41 for 260 yards and a touchdown in the victory and seemed to show no ill effects from his bad ankle as he scrambled for another.

“I ask a lot from the guys around me. I feel like if I’m going to ask them to play through pain and nicks and bruises, I’ve got to do it as well,” Mahomes said of suiting up for this week’s game. “That’s something that I pride myself on is being out there with my guys.”

Head coach Andy Reid also talked about his QB’s toughness with the media.
