Raiders’ Coaching Search Heats Up: Top Priority for Next Head Coach Revealed
The Raiders are in the market for a new head coach, and there’s a good chance the candidate they decide on isn’t going to be someone lacking experience.
An NFL Network report on Wednesday said Tom Brady believes the Raiders need a coach with “expertise and stature” running the operation, and there’s a chance those benchmarks could rule out a few popular candidates.
Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter talked about the Vegas coaching search on Wednesday and he believes experience is going to be a big factor in who the team chooses.
“I believe what the Raiders are doing is I believe that their goal is… they want an experienced head coach who’s going to come in and grip this franchise and take it somewhere,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“You may have no doubt that’s exactly what they want. I have zero doubt. That’s not speculative,” Hondo continued. “They know what they want. That’s why I think they’re going to end up with an experienced head coach.”
On Wednesday, a coach that might have the experience and expertise Carpenter was talking about was added to the list of candidates on the Raiders list.
Steve Spagnuolo is one of the most respected defensive coaches in the NFL and the Raiders have reportedly reached out to request an interview with the veteran coach.
