Lamar Jackson’s Ultimate Goal Revealed: Ravens’ QB Plans for Jersey Number will Go Down in History
Lamar Jackson‘s No. 8 jersey might be history if the Baltimore Ravens end up hoisting the Lombardi Trophy next month.
Jackson made a recent appearance on The Ravens Lounge podcast and said he wants to change his jersey number to No. 1 if he and the Ravens win the Super Bowl.
“If we win the Super Bowl I’m going to No. 1,” Jackson said. “I want to win a Super Bowl with No. 8 on then come back and do the same thing with No. 1 on.”
Jackson said No. 1 was his first-ever jersey number as his dad wanted him to have that number for a reason that’s kept with him to this day.
“That’s my first number ever,” Jackson said. “My dad told me to get No. 1 because that’s the best, you’re the best, and that always stuck with me.”
Jackson’s choice to go to the No. 8 when he got to college at Louisville came from his mom, who told him the number stood for new beginnings.
“I wanna to retire No. 8 and No. 1,” Jackson said. “I wanna do that here at the Ravens.”
If this is Jackson’s last year with the No. 8 on his jersey, he’s make it hard for anyone to ever top its run. He’s fresh off his third First Team All-Pro selection, putting him on track to also win his third MVP award, and his fellow players felt the same about his 2024 season. Anything short of winning the whole thing would be a disappointment for the best QB in football right now.
It all starts with getting to the Super Bowl . Jackson and the Ravens host the Pittsburgh Steelers Saturday night in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.
