Raiders Shock the NFL: Las Vegas Requests Interview with Arch-Rival Coach

The Las Vegas Raiders are the name to watch when it comes to winning the head coaching search sweepstakes this offseason. Everyone seems to want Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, but the Raiders seem to be the team in the lead. Now, nothing has been done or set in stone, but as the insiders continue to say, it’s picking up steam.

However, they are doing their due diligence, as they should. While they think Johnson may be their guy, they need to make sure there isn’t another coach out there who is a much better fit with the organization or a better fit with a different general manager, which they also have to find.

They are now at seven candidates that they have interviewed or are wanting to interview. And, that’s after this most recent one, which happens to be one of the Raiders’ biggest enemies.

Raiders set to interview Broncos DC

The Las Vegas Raiders have taken several different routes in their last few years when it comes to finding a head coach. They have gone with the former Raiders head coach who was the last guy to have playoff success with the team in Jon Gruden. They have gone with the offensive “genius” in Josh McDaniels, who hadn’t had any success as a head coach before but has had a ton of success as an offensive coordinator.

And they have gone the route of the young guy who is a motivator, a former player, and has that Raider identity. And, none of those have worked, so it’s really hard to tell what they will do. But now, they are about to interview a defensive coach, who wasn’t a player, but has been a head coach before.

According to multiple insiders, the Raiders are set to interview Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who led the Broncos to a top-five defense, and a defense that led the NFL in sacks.

Joseph was once the head coach of the Broncos a few years ago. He has since had DC stops with the Arizona Cardinals and now the Broncos. I’m not sure if he would be a great candidate or the right one, but Mark Davis and Tom Brady seem intrigued.
