‘This is only the start’ – Arsenal Hale End star responds bravely to Erling Haaland with huge promise
Arsenal academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly has opened up following his Premier League debut in what was an intense draw with title rivals Manchester City.
The 17-year-old full-back was named on the bench for the third Premier League game in a row on Sunday afternoon. But was involved in the action even before making his way onto the field.
With Arsenal defending their 2-1 lead with ten men, the teenager was shown a yellow card for reportedly telling goalkeeper David Raya to sit down and waste some time. Lewis-Skelly made his debut for the final few minutes of the game, but Arsenal suffered late heartbreak with John Stones finding a stoppage-time equaliser.
The game included some flashpoints, with Lewis-Skelly involved in one full-time with City striker Erling Haaland. The youngster was trying to pull his teammates away from Haaland when the Norwegian striker grabbed his arm and appeared to ask him who he was.
While he has made no mention on the incidents during the match, the Arsenal man has since taken to social media to send a message following his Premier League debut. He has also made a vow that there is more to come.
“Proud to make my Premier League debut for our club,” he wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “This is only the start, but I am very grateful to this team, our fans, my family and everyone at Hale End and Colney.“
The youngster could make his full debut for the club this week when the Gunners take on League One side Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. Mikel Arteta is expected to make some changes for the game.
Arsenal are next in Premier League action on Saturday. They take on newly-promoted side Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium with the Foxes searching for their first league win of the season.
