Patrick Mahomes Just Got The Ultimate Weapon: Chiefs Draft SEC Star to Take Offense to New Heights
The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for Super Bowl LIX, where they will face the Philadelphia Eagles in search of the Lombardi Trophy.
Kansas City is looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl titles after winning a ring in 2022 and 2023.
While the Chiefs have been dominant as of late, heading to their fifth Super Bowl in the last six years, they’ve been thin at wide receiver since the departure of Tyreek Hill.
During the Chiefs’ dynasty with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, Hill served as their only true No. 1 wide receiver, from 2016 to 2021.
Hill was then traded to the Miami Dolphins in the 2022 offseason.
Their current wide receiver corps consists of the following, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, DeAndre Hopkins and Justin Watson.
In a recent mock draft by Nick Schultz at On3, the Chiefs answer one of their biggest questions, selecting Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden with the No. 32 pick in the first round.
During his final college football season, Golden posted nine touchdowns and 987 yards on 58 receptions, leading the wide receiver room in total yards and touchdowns catches.
Golden helped lead the Longhorns to the College Football Playoff, where they eventually lost to the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the semifinals.
Texas finished the season with a 13-3 record and a 7-1 mark in SEC play.
As Golden prepares for the draft, Kansas City will prepare for the big game, set to face the Eagles on Feb. 9 at 6:30 ET in the Superdome in New Orleans.
Mahomes will look to be the hero yet again, in search of his third Super Bowl MVP award.
