William Saliba is mocked by fans after giving away a clumsy penalty in ‘awful display’ against Belgium – before France claim Nations League victory
William Saliba was roasted by football’s internet minions on Monday night after clumsily giving away a penalty in France’s 2-1 over Belgium.
The Arsenal star has been one of the Premier League‘s best defenders for the last two years but he was hung out to dry for an ‘awful display’ – even by Gunners fans.
Saliba slipped and clattered into Lois Openda in the first half, though Youri Tielemans blazed the penalty over the bar in the Nations League clash in Brussels.
The 23-year-old, unfortunate to lose his footing, got nowhere near the ball and was yellow carded by the referee – before fans online dished out the red.
‘Awful display,’ wrote one fan on X, formerly Twitter.
