Cristiano Ronaldo makes cheeky Arsenal dig after ‘unbelievable’ transfer deal
Former Manchester United hero Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t resist a dig at Arsenal in his candid chat with former Gunners goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny – in a moment caught on social media.
The Poland shot-stopper came out of retirement to sign for Barcelona after the Spanish giants suffered a season-ending injury between the sticks. Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, prompting Hansi Flick to delve back into the free agent market to lure the 34-year-old back into the professional game after hanging up his boots, and gloves.
Szczesny made 132 league appearances for Arsenal – and was brought to north London after impressing for Legia Warsaw’s youth team. After eight years, the Pole ended his association with the Gunners and signed for Juventus, after spending the last two years of his time in the Premier League on loan with another Serie A side, AS Roma.
Poland took on Portugal in Warsaw on Saturday evening, but it was the visitors, with Ronaldo captaining Roberto Martinez’s men, who ran out on top. The 39-year-old was on target, doubling the lead after Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in a 3-1 verdict.
Piotr Zielinski halved the deficit but an own-goal from Southampton defender Jan Bednarek then completed the scoring for Portugal. Spanish outlet El Chiringuito captured a moment following the game between Szczesny and the former United and Real Madrid hero – who played together at Juventus – where Ronaldo couldn’t stop himself from taking aim at some of his old clubs.
