WATCH: Davante Adams answers in excruciating detail as to why it didn’t work out with the Raiders

Trades in the NFL are anything but rare. However, early-season trades usually make more of a splash.

Davante Adams left the Las Vegas Raiders rather quickly. He sat out a few games with an apparent hamstring injury, then demanded a trade, and within weeks was reunited with Aaron Rodgers as a member of the New York Jets.

Fans noted how Adams went from one 2-4 team to another 2-4 team.

Adams, 31, is still one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL. Though he had success with the Raiders, he is known for his friendship and connection with Rodgers dating back to the years they overlapped on the Green Bay Packers.

Speaking to reporters in New York, Adams detailed at length what went wrong with Las Vegas.

“It’s a weird thing to say that I’m happy,” Adams said. “But obviously it was time for a change and this whole thing transpired a little weird but at the end of the day, we’re in a better place. I think the Raiders are in a better place as well. Everybody can move on.”

Putting Addams back together with Rodgers puts the Jets in a better place – especially after three straight losses.

But how does it help the Raiders? It was clear that new head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco had the desire to build a contender. But something fractured along the way with the six-time Pro Bowler.

“It’s a great question,” Adams said. “I said, ‘Sometimes if you don’t properly’ — let me choose my words carefully here.”

And Adams did hesitate before answering. His answer was one that doesn’t take an idiot to figure out: There was not a lot of chemistry between him, his quarterback, and the rest of the offense. The current starting quarterback is Aiden O’Connell, who is now playing over Gardner Minshew.

“Just because [the defense] wants to line up with the safety and try to play Cover-2, we don’t just shut it down and move on,” Adams explained. “Sometimes you gotta find a way to still make the play work because if you’re just looking for single coverage in order for me to make a play, I won’t be able to make many plays over the course of a year just based on how I’m being played by a lot of these defenses.”

In all fairness, Adams did head to the Raiders in 2022 to reunite with Derek Carr, another close friend and his college quarterback. Leaving had nothing to do with the franchise in a personal way, he clarified.

“All the fans and everybody associated with the Raiders, they see everything,” Adams explained. “They see a trade demand and just think he wants out and he’s quitting on the team when it’s more about being able to feel like – I don’t want that helpless feeling of feeling like I’m on the field – and not every game is going to be a 100-yard game, a 150 or 200-yard game – but I want to feel like I can impact the game every time I touch the field.”
