The New York Yankees reportedly tried to trade starting pitcher Marcus Stroman throughout much of the offseason. However, after injuries to Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt, and Luis Gil, Stroman was removed from the trade block and inserted into the starting rotation.
Despite this, his future in New York remains uncertain. FanSided’s Rucker Haringey recently predicted that the Yankees will part ways with Stroman at the end of the season, even if he pitches 140 innings and triggers his 2026 vesting option.
Haringey noted, “Stroman wouldn’t have started the season with the Yankees if not for the injuries to Cole and Gil. The team had planned to trade him but kept him on board as a reliable arm for the rotation.

He added that Stroman’s 2026 option could make him harder to trade, as activating it would make his salary more difficult for the Yankees to offload. Haringey believes Stroman will play a significant role early in the season but might eventually give way to younger, better options as his performance declines.
Given the Yankees’ deep pool of top prospects, with Will Warren being the most ready for a call-up, Stroman’s future with the team looks increasingly unlikely. With trade options and next offseason’s free agency, it seems almost certain Stroman won’t be a part of the Yankees’ plans for 2026 and beyond.
