Love’s Impressive Numbers Put Him in NFL Royal Territory

It’s a fact that quarterback Jordan Love has had his ups and downs in the NFL. But it’s unquestionable that his highs are extremely impressive, and one stat in particular shows how productive Love can be for the Green Bay Packers.

After the 24-22 win over the Houston Texans where Love threw three touchdown passes, he has had two or more touchdown throws in each of his last nine regular season games — the last four regular season games in 2023, and the first five this year.

More impressive than the stat itself is the company. Jordan Love is only the fourth player aged 25-or-younger with at least two TD passes in nine or more consecutive games in NFL history. The other three are Dan Marino (10 games from Weeks 1-10, 1984 and nine games from Week 9, 1986 – Week 1, 1987); Brett Favre (12 games from Week 10, 1994 – Week 4, 1995); and Patrick Mahomes (14 consecutive games from Week 6, 2018 – Week 3, 2019). Those are two Hall of Famers and an obvious future Hall of Famer.

Beyond these nine regular season games, Jordan Love also had two or more touchdown throws in each of his two playoff games — three against the Dallas Cowboys and two against the San Francisco 49ers. So, in total, Love has had two or more touchdown passes in each of his last 11 games.

The last time in which Jordan Love played a football game and didn’t throw at least two touchdowns was against the New York Giants, on December 11, in week 14 of the 2023 season.

Jordan Love has had an insane number of touchdowns, and it’s been impressively sustainable. This year, even though he missed two games with a knee injury, Love is tied for the lead in total touchdown passes (15, alongside Baker Mayfield).

Love leads the NFL in touchdown-throw rate (8.4%, while no one else is above 8%), and he’s had an average of three touchdowns per game.

The interceptions are an obvious problem, and the Packers want to make sure his bad plays are less frequent. But the aggressiveness is simply a part of who Love is as a passer.

“It’s the NFL. There’s not always gonna be wide open guys, it’s gonna be tight Windows,” Love said after the win over the Texans. “You’ve got to fit the ball in there sometimes. I’m going to keep playing, learn and grow from the mistakes, the interceptions, and just keep playing. That’s not gonna ever limit me. I’m gonna keep going out there and do the best play I can for the team. I’m always going to be aggressive. There’s always going to be those tight-window throws.”
