Report: Rams Make Bold Statement With Victory Over Vikings
Following Week 5, L.A. was completely hemorrhaged with injuries all over the roster with a 1-4 record. Puka Nacua hadn’t played since the season-opener. Cooper Kupp went down the week after. Matthew Stafford was even the subject of insane trade scenarios.
Not even two weeks later did Stafford get his top receivers back, and all is right again in SoFi Stadium.
Stafford balled out against the Minnesota Vikings on “Thursday Night Football,” throwing for 279 yards and four touchdowns on 25-34 passing against one of the toughest defenses in the NFL.
Nacua and Kupp combined for 12 receptions, 157 yards, and two of Stafford’s scores through the air. Demarcus Robinson joined in on the fun with two catches, each of them being in the end zone for Stafford’s other two touchdowns.
28 points plus two more thanks to a controversial safety. Every single point sent a message to the NFL: Don’t call talking about trades.
Kupp looked to be the next elite receiver to be dealt before the upcoming NFL trade deadline. Amari Cooper, Davante Adams, and Deandre Hopkins have all found new teams, and clubs such as the Pittsburgh Steelers were rumored to be interested to make Kupp the next in line.
Good luck getting the Rams to trade him away now.
The NFC West is all of the sudden ripe for the taking. Three teams sit at 3-4 entering the weekend and the Seattle Seahawks currently hold a one-game lead over everyone else at 4-3.
If the Rams can beat the Vikings with Kupp, Nacua, and Stafford all playing like their usual selves, why should they be interested in breaking things up?
The storm was a rough one for the Rams to weather early on. The idea of starting from scratch when things looked bleak was at least a little appealing.
Thursday night in Inglewood changed all of that. This Rams team has survived its disastrous start and is now right back into the thick of things.
The only thing they’re selling is tickets for the next 10 games.
