Breaking: Ashton Jeanty Finds New Home With…
Pro Football Focus analyst Trevor Sikkema recently shared his latest 2025 NFL mock draft, and with the 12th overall pick in the first round, he has Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty getting selected by the Dallas Cowboys.
Sikkema shared why he believes Jeanty could end up wearing a star on the side of his helmet next year.
“The run game hasn’t been kind to the Cowboys in 2024 — on either side of the ball. They need a true running back who they can lean on, and Jeanty is the best in college football. He is having one of the most efficient and explosive rushing seasons ever recorded, boasting a 98.5 PFF rushing grade so far this year.
Jeanty is the only running back to be selected in Sikkema’s 2025 mock draft, and rightfully so, as the Boise State junior is in the middle of an incredible season.
In seven games with the Broncos this year, Jeanty has already rushed for 1,376 yards and 18 touchdowns on 159 carries while also catching 12 passes for 50 yards and another score.
During his most recent performance, he finished with 128 rushing yards and one touchdown in Boise State’s 29-24 win over UNLV. And while his rushing total in that contest would be solid for just about any other player, it was actually the second-fewest yards he’s rushed for in a single game this season.
Despite his “down” performance, however, Jeanty is still one of the favorites to win this season’s Heisman Trophy award. Heading into Week 10, the Broncos running back has the fourth-best odds to be the next Heisman Trophy winner at +475, according to ESPN Bet.
Only Miami quarterback Cam Ward (+325), Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (+275) and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel (+260) have better odds to win the Heisman Trophy than Jeanty at this point in the season.
If the Boise State star is actually able to become the next winner of college football’s illustrious Heisman Trophy award, he would be the first running back to be given the honor since Alabama’s Derrick Henry won the award in 2015.
Jeanty winning this season’s Heisman Trophy would probably significantly increase his stock for the 2025 NFL Draft as well. So, if he’s truly at the top of the Cowboys’ draft board next year, then trading up in the first round might end up becoming necessary in order for them to land him.
