Towns’ Tough Break: Knicks Star Sidelined With…
Just when we thought everything had finally clicked following the trouncing of Miami and Karl-Anthony Town’s 44-point explosion… we got the bad news call.
Expected the unexpected, as they say.
The New York Knicks have listed Towns as “questionable” with a sprained left wrist in their latest injury report for Friday’s matchup in Detroit.
KAT is coming off his best game donning orange and blue threads after dominating Bam Adebayo and the whole Heat bunch with a 44-point, 13-rebound performance on Wednesday.
This shouldn’t be too worrying of an injury, however, considering he’s questionable—as Josh Hart was right before playing 42 minutes in Miami—and not straight ruled out of Friday’s contest, but it’s kinda surprising as there were no signs of any problem during or after the last game. It’s also worth noting that the injured wrist is not on KAT’s shooting hand.
The problem, obviously, is that New York already is carrying a rather shallow frontcourt with both Mitchell Robinson and Precious Achiuwa out while Jericho Sims and Ariel Hukporti are available but not precisely anything otherworldly.
Achiuwa, who has missed the first five games of the season due to a hamstring strain, joined the Knicks on their ongoing road trip, so he might be able to make his return to the court soon.
Robinson, however, is out indefinitely following ankle surgery and is not expected back until 2025 at the earliest.
The Knicks’ current injuries haven’t entirely derailed the start of the season, mind you, with New York splitting their first four games while facing four legitimate Eastern Conference teams in Boston, Indiana, Cleveland, and Miami.
Add the fact that none of Towns nor Mikal Bridges—New York’s biggest additions in more than a decade—had played together nor with their new teammates more than through a few preseason scrimmages, and we all should be pleased with the early results this team has put together.
