Catcher Shocker: “d” Arnaud Out, All-Star in? Braves Seek…
The Atlanta Braves did not meet expectations in 2024. Their roster could look very different in 2025 with many key players potentially leaving. They declined the club option for catcher Travis d’Arnaud and need to potentially replace him.
FanSided’s Christopher Kine suggested that the Braves should trade for Wilson Contreras to replace d’Arnaud.
“The Cardinals are expected to significantly reduce payroll next season after another subpar finish in the NL Central,” wrote Kline. “John Mozeliak has all but ceded power to Chaim Bloom, who will steer the St. Louis front office in a far more patient direction. That puts a name like Willson Contreras — signed through the 2027 season with roughly $54.5 million left on his contract — squarely on the chopping block.”
The Braves may not want to pay what Contreras is owed, especially after declining d’Arnaud’s option. However, they could use another bat behind Murphy after the offensive struggles in 2024.
