Breaking: Diamondbacks $60 million star predicted to…

The Arizona Diamondbacks missed the postseason in 2024 after reaching the World Series in 2023. They could be losing a key player in free agency.

While making predictions for the top 50 free agents, MLB Trade Rumors’ Darragh McDonald and Anthony Franco predicted that first baseman Christian Walker would leave the Diamondbacks and join the New York Yankees.

“Walker has been one of the game’s most underrated and overlooked stars for the past several seasons. He’s a premium defender who has emerged as a consistent threat to swat 30 home runs in a given season. He no longer runs that well, but at his best he even had above-average speed,” wrote the staff. “Walker has won a Gold Glove in each of the past two seasons and will probably win his third in 2024 after posting terrific marks in Outs Above Average (13) and Defensive Runs Saved (7). He made just two errors in 2024, his second straight season with only two on the year.”

McDonald and Franco were two of four writers who predicted that Walker would sign with the Yankees. It certainly fills a need for the Yankees who have moved on from Anthony Rizzo and are seeking offensive production at first base. Walker hit 26 home runs in 130 games for the Diamondbacks in 2024.

MLB Trade Rumors predicted Walker to sign a three-year, $60 million deal in free agency. The Diamondbacks slugger is arguably the best first baseman available outside of Pete Alonso.
