After only having one player fined in the first seven weeks, the Minnesota Vikings have been on a three-week streak of having a player fined.
Against the Jacksonville Jaguars, three Vikings players were levied with fines due to “unnecessary roughness.”
RB Cam Akers: $6,544
ILB Blake Cashman: $11,255
OT Cam Robinson: $11,255
The fines for Robinson and Cashman were both expected to occur. They were each called for a personal foul during the game. Robinson’s was a late hit out of bounds that drew the ire of the Jaguars bench immediately, especially since Robinson was traded less than two weeks prior.
Cashman got the facemask of quarterback Mac Jones late in the game when he sacked him and the penalty negated the sack. It was a frustrating one at the time, but safety Camryn Bynum got the game-sealing interception shortly thereafter.
Akers lowering his head is something that the NFL has been calling more often. They don’t want anyone lowering their head period due to safety concerns.
The Vikings players could choose to appeal the fines, as the NFL has been willing to rescind fines as of late. This isn’t news they wanted to hear before a critical game where they want to get a sweep of the Tennessee Titans.
