The Minnesota Vikings have finally made a change at right guard, as Dalton Risner will get the start over Ed Ingram.
Risner has been a fan favorite over the last two seasons after he embraced the fanbase clamoring for the team to sign him during training camp in 2023. They pulled the trigger after week two against the Philadelphia Eagles and he ended up taking over for Ezra Cleveland when he suffered an injury and played well enough for the Vikings to trade Cleveland to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

What’s intriguing about the move is Risner has never taken an offensive line snap anywhere other than left guard in his National Football League career. He will be replacing Ingram, who has started all 41 games of his NFL career.
The idea that Risner is better than Ingram isn’t one that I believe. Ingram is, in my opinion, better than Risner, especially when you consider the difficult task that head coach Kevin O’Connell asks of them with Sam Darnold’s third-highest time to throw in the NFL at 3.08 seconds. Risner might be a slightly better pass blocker but is a worse run blocker and struggles to climb to the second level, something pivotal in zone concepts.
Will the move work? That remains to be seen. However, the Vikings have decided to give it a try in a game they are facing Jeffery Simmons.
