A Contract That will Change the Game: Patriots Top Target Set to Sign Massive Deal
The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to franchise tag Tee Higgins, hurting the New England Patriots chances of signing their top free agent target.
Higgins and the Patriots have been linked over the past few years, but until he hits free agency, there isn’t much New England can do.
It’s a tough situation for Higgins and the Patriots, as he wants to get paid long-term, and New England wants to add to its wide receiver room and pair Drake Maye with a true star.
If he hits the free agency market, he could be looking at more than the franchise tag of around $26 million.
PFN believes that deal could be between $25 and $30 million, with a contract length of three to five years.
“Tee Higgins’ contract value may arguably be the toughest to figure out of any player this offseason. Chances are we may have to wait another year for the answer as the Cincinnati Bengals look set to franchise tag him, which will give him a value of just over $26 million for the year,” PFN wrote.
Giving Higgins that type of money doesn’t necessarily guarantee the Patriots much.
He’s very good, evident by his 2022 and 2024 seasons, but there might be better options out there for a cheaper price.
