Baseball in Mourning: Snell’s Devastating Shoulder Detail Crushes Hopes, Fans Devastated
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Sunday that they have placed Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list, and the star pitcher has since shared a notable update about his ailment.
Snell has been placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to April 3, which indicates that there is some hope the left-hander will be able to return sooner rather than later.
On Monday, Snell told reporters that he has been pitching through soreness in his shoulder for several weeks. He said an MRI has confirmed that he has inflammation but no structural damage.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that the MRI revealed positive news, though he did not rule out Snell receiving injections as part of the pitcher’s treatment.
Snell signed a five-year, $182M contract with the Dodgers in November. He spent the 2024 season with the San Francisco Giants and went 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA across 20 starts.
Snell has been solid through his first two starts with the Dodgers. He has allowed 10 hits and two earned runs in nine total innings of work. L.A. won both games, but Snell was pulled after just 80 pitches in his start against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
The Dodgers will likely play it safe with Snell, but it does not sound like the 32-year-old expects to be sidelined for very long. He will be eligible to return from the IL on April 18.
