Bear Report Roundtable: Caleb Williams progress, the Bears ceiling, and more
The Chicago Bears are officially on bye week and through the first six weeks of the 2024 campaign, there have been plenty of storylines to discuss. After an offseason filled with hype, including a training camp that saw the franchise featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus find themselves at 4-2 in mid-October.
Over the last six weeks, the Bears have quietly started to flip the switch. The offense, which struggled through the first three games of the regular season, has suddenly found a groove. The defense, as expected, started strong, and has continued to play well, picking up from where they left off last season. Major free agency additions such as D’Andre Swift and Kevin Byard have hit their strides. The Bears are also getting some quality production out of younger players such as Gervon Dexter, Rome Odunze, and Roschon Johnson, putting into perspective how much the coaching staff has developed draft picks selected under Poles.
Since week 1, the Bears have had one of the most favorable schedules in the league with the toughest opponent being the Houston Texans. Through the first six weeks of the regular season, the teams Chicago has played have won just 12 games total, putting into perspective how easy the schedule has been. Over the next six weeks, the schedule will get tougher which means Chicago will need to string together at least three to four more wins before divisional play starts in week 11.
For this edition of the Bear Report Roundtable, writers Usayd Koshul, Zack Pearson, Andrew Freeman, Aaron Leming, and Bobby Walker provided thoughts on Caleb Williams performance and development through the first six games, the Bears offense and defense, players who have stood out so far, and a prediction for the second half of the season.
