Bears’ Rome Odunze Ready to Unleash His Full Potential: Position Switch Under Ben Johnson Adds Fuel to the Fire
The Chicago Bears offense is set to have a major overhaul from 2024 under new head coach Ben Johnson. Johnson showcased his creative offensive mind with unique concepts and schemes he drew up as the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.
Johnson also showed a knack for coming up with trick plays for the Lions to run in most of their games. The “stumblebum ” made the Bears’ defense look foolish when Jared Goff faked a fumble before tossing a touchdown pass.

During an appearance on Pro Football Talk Live Thursday, wide receiver Rome Odunze said he was caught off guard by the “stumblebum.”
“I remember watching the replays and being like, ‘What happened?’ That was fresh in the moment, we didn’t know if they did it on purpose or if it was a trick play,” Odunze said. “Watching it back, that was an incredible play.”

Odunze is already envisioning himself playing a new position during one of Johnson’s trick plays with the Bears.
“Whatever he needs me to do in the offense, I’m going to get it done,” Odunze said. “If that’s warming my arm up, have Caleb go run routes in the offseason, I might have to do that, just to practice.”
The Bears selected Odunze with the No. 9 pick in 2024. He recorded 54 receptions for 734 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season.
