Blockbuster Buzz: Cubs Looking to Deal High-Priced Star in Franchise-Altering Trade
Will the Chicago Cubs pull off a major trade this winter?
Chicago was 83 games in 2024 in Craig Counsell’s first year as the team’s manager. The Cubs didn’t bring Counsell in to lead the team through a rebuild. They handed him a historic deal to hopefully take the organization to a higher level.
“The Yankees in the past have liked Bellinger, whose father Clay, pitched for them from 1999 to 2001. Bellinger presumably could be one of their options if they lose Soto and replace him with multiple players. But the $32.5 million Bellinger is guaranteed would mitigate the return in some fashion. The Cubs might need to take back an inflated contract, or accept marginal prospects in a deal.”
If the Cubs want to contend in 2025, it would be a little surprising to lose one of their best players. But maybe they have more moves up their sleeves.
