Bombshell Trade Proposal Rocks Red Sox Nation: Star Closer and Former Catcher Involved in Massive Deal
The Boston Red Sox have already acquired one star reliever in Aroldis Chapman, but considering his age, they shouldn’t stop there. Play Tessie on WEEI proposed a trade that would get another star reliever in his prime to Boston, and get a familiar face as well. The trade is this: Kutter Crawford for Jhoan Duran and Christian Vazquez.
This past season, Duran had a 3.64 ERA, 66 strikeouts, and 23 saves in 58 games. Vazquez hit .221/.248/.327/.575 with seven homers and 10 doubles.
The reason this trade works is due to the fact the Twins may be trying to offload some of their payroll this season. Getting rid of Vazquez’s $10 million dollar contract would help, and the Sox would get a stellar defensive first baseman to back up Connor Wong.
As for Duran, he still has a few years of control left, but when it’s over, he’s going to ask for some big money, so they might want to get rid of him now.
In return, the Twins get Crawford, who has plenty of control on his contract, and he’s shown he’s capable of producing and growing.
Should the Sox consider this? Heck yeah! If they could somehow work this trade, it would be amazing. The people who would say no are probably the Twins, so if the Sox kick in some cash or a prospect, it could be a done deal.
