Boston’s Big Play: Red Sox Attempt to Steal Dodgers Thunder With…
The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024, but they may not be able to keep all of their key players around in 2025. One of their free agents will be a hot commodity to the losers of the Soto sweepstakes and they could lose a fan-favorite to the Boston Red Sox.
Teoscar Hernández is one of the best players available, but it’s not a guarantee that he will be back with the Dodgers. According to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox are threatening the Dodgers’ hopes of a reunion.
Hernández will be a target for any team that doesn’t land Soto. Cotillo noted that the market for Hernández should heat up after Soto makes his long-awaited decision. Hernández has made it known that he wants to stay with the Dodgers, but they will have to compete with teams like the Red Sox to make it happen.
Hernández told reporters after the World Series that the Dodgers are his preferred team. However, he noted that the ball is in the Dodgers court.
“The Dodgers will be my priority in free agency. I will do whatever is possible to return. It’s not in my hands, but if it were I’d pick them,” said Hernández.
The Dodgers have been involved in the Soto sweepstakes, just like the Red Sox. The wait for Soto to make his choice has likely slowed down any negotiations with Hernández. He is coming off of a career year where he earned his second career All-Star nod. He hit 33 home runs and notched 99 RBIs. He was a key piece of their championship.
The Red Sox will make a strong push to steal the fan-favorite away from the Dodgers if they cannot land Soto. Perhaps Hernández’s desire to play with the Dodgers is enough for him to take less money to stay with the team.
