Breaking: Anthony Davis Agent Rich Paul Makes Shocking Admission About Luka Doncic Trade
LeBron James isn’t the only player on Rich Paul’s client list. The NBA superagent also has, among others, Anthony Davis on his star-studded clientele, which is why it may come as a surprise to many that Paul didn’t know about Davis’ blockbuster trade to the Dallas Mavericks before it went down.
Paul appeared on Tuesday’s episode of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas’ “Gil’s Arena” podcast. At one point in the show, Paul admitted that he was kept in the dark as the Los Angeles Lakers and the Mavs negotiated the Davis-Luka Doncic trade.
“99.9% of the time, I’m going to know what’s going on,” Paul said. “The one time I didn’t was the one time we all didn’t ‘per se’ know what was going on. It was a shock to everybody.”
Paul then explained that he “always knew the affinity that was had for AD from [Mavs general manager Nico Harrison’s] perspective.” As such, the Klutch Sports Group CEO wasn’t completely shocked that Davis ended up in Dallas.
However, Paul did reveal that he believes the deal would not have gone down if the Lakers and the Mavs did not keep it a secret.
“You don’t move mountains with everybody knowing,” he said. “You can’t. And so, I’m glad I didn’t know. And I’m glad that whoever else didn’t know because it probably wouldn’t happened if you did know.”
Paul went on to say that if word got out on the deal, it would have opened “different cans of worms” which, in his belief, would have led to the deal breaking down altogether.
While Paul acknowledged the fact that everybody will have their own “issues” about what turned out to be a landscape-shifting trade deal, he knows that “that’s not my place.”
“The only thing I can do is, whatever happens, guy gets there, ‘Okay, how do we make this situation the best we can make it,'” Paul said.
