Breaking: Bears Player’s Week Goes from Bad to Worse With NFL’s Latest Decision
It has been a wild week for the Chicago Bears. Two losses to NFC North rivals in hurtful ways, head coach Matt Eberflus was fired, and Thomas Brown, who had been promoted from passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator, ascended to interim head coach.
Well, now the week has become even worse for defensive end Daniel Hardy. It’s a minor situation, but he certainly won’t like the news.
The NFL fined Hardy $5,083 for unnecessary roughness during the first quarter of the Minnesota Vikings game, last Sunday. It wasn’t a penalty, but Hardy had a late hit on the play.
The Bears were lucky a penalty wasn’t called, since the defensive end has already had four special teams penalties this season.
The NFL always announces on Saturday the fines from the previous week of games. So this is related to the Week 12 game. If there’s a fine or fines for plays on Thanksgiving, the league will only disclose it next weekend.
While it’s tough to see football players losing money like that for normal plays, at least it goes to a good cause. The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support legends in need.
Daniel Hardy is in his third NFL season. A seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, he has been with the Bears since last year. In 2023, he spent the whole season on the practice squad, but this year he made the 53-man roster.
Hardy has played only 10 defensive snaps this season, but he is an important special teamer, with 260 snaps (83.33%).
