Because of this, CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson mentioned New York Mets slugger J.D. Martinez as a fit in free agency.
“Martinez also had troubles with right-handed pitching, something owed to a 42 percent whiff rate on breaking pitches. It’s not particularly surprising that a 37-year-old is showing signs of decay; it is, though, worrisome when the player in question creates value only at the plate. We suspect Martinez will have a spot on an Opening Day roster; additional slippage could prevent him from keeping it through the entire season. Potential landing spots: (San Francisco Giants), (Toronto Blue Jays), (Detroit Tigers).”
Martinez currently is projected to get a $9.5 million deal across one season. Could that be with Toronto?
