Breaking: Detroit Lions’ Surprise Release of David Long Takes New Turn: David Long’s Return Adds Fuel to the Fire
The Detroit Lions cleared a spot on their 53-man roster on Christmas Eve when they surprisingly waived linebacker David Long. The release came as a surprise because Long had been playing well in Detroit.
He had come off a pretty good game against the Bills and then suddenly was relegated to special teams snaps against the Bears and then waived a few days later. The Titans claimed him off the waiver wire on Christmas day, but he will not be joining the Titans because he has failed his physical.
It looks like Long may have an injury he’s dealing with and maybe that slowed him down. Ultimately different team doctors have different standards and it could just be that Long didn’t meet Tennessee’s standards.
It’s possible that Long was perfectly healthy by their standards when the team waived him. For that reason, he could be back in Detroit.
There was some thought that the Lions could want Long back on their practice squad and this now gives them a chance to make that happen as Long is now a free agent and free to sign wherever he wants.
