With around a week to go before the NFL trade deadline, most of the moves so far have been at the wide receiver position. Super contenders, playoff hopefuls, etc., have all made moves that have blown up the internet.
Some frustrated receivers, such as Diontae Johnson , were waiting to find a better place to play. Now Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have come forward to answer his prayers.
The franchise has one of the most potent attacks in the league. With Lamar Jackson playing at an MVP level and Derrick Henry bulldozing opponents on his way to the end zone, the Ravens are already a handful.
But they do have some shortcomings at the receiver spot. Despite having the likes of Mark Andrews , Isaiah Likely , Rashod Bateman , Zay Flowers , and Nelson Agholor , the team seems to not have that go-to guy.
Either it is because their current go-to guy Andrews sees a lot of coverage. Or it is due to some schematic issues with the rest of the receiver’s face. Whatever it is, they seem to have solved it by moving for the Carolina Panthers star.

But the real question stemming from this move is if his addition adds another dynamic to the Ravens offense. Either way, for Johnson, it is a full circle moment after he was traded this offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who they will face come December.

The Baltimore Ravens offensive lineup so far was based on how they were going to use Derrick Henry. If he is to rack up yards, then the Ravens send in fullback Patrick Ricard to help. That meant either one of the tight ends or receivers was going to sit.
If Ricard is not on the field, both tight ends and three receivers play. But Diontae Johnson is a legitimate outside threat, suggesting that he will start every game. That could push either Rashod Bateman or Zay Flowers onto the bench.
The Ravens can now strike fear in the hearts of their opposition as the team has the option of giving Lamar Jackson multiple options on every down. As of now, only the Detroit Lions have that kind of luxury. This move now helps the franchise get all their personnel with enough games to get into a rhythm until the Super Bowl.
