The Green Bay Packers defense has helped carry them through some tough injuries to Jordan Love. They just made another signing that could give them a boost.
The Packers signed former Washington Commanders first-round pick Jamin Davis to their practice squad, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
“(Packers) add LB Jamin Davis to the practice squad,” Davis wrote on X. “Quite the luxury, to have a former first-round pick with 36 starts on your practice squad. Wouldn’t surprise to see him get game action there.”
Davis has not lived up to expectations since being drafted. However, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has a track record of taking players like Davis and letting the Packers coaching staff turn them into productive players. Take a look at Malik Willis, Rasul Douglas and De’Vondre Campbell. Campbell became an All-Pro with the Packers and Douglas signed a three-year extension.
The move is interesting because even though he only played 86 snaps this year, they came as an edge rusher. However, the Packers are listing him as a linebacker. Davis has seven sacks in his career and has primarily played as an off-ball linebacker.
Quay Walker has not lived up to expectations at times but has shown flashes. Edgerrin Cooper has continued to show up as he gets more playing time. Perhaps the Packers view Davis as a situational player. Right now he is on the practice squad, but he could be called up at some point.
