With just seconds remaining in the game, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson powered into the end zone, giving his team a one point lead. That left just twelve seconds on the clock for New England to attempt to comeback.
However, when looking back at the conversion, it appears there was a very clear missed call that would have benefited the Patriots.
When watching the replay, it certainly looks like defensive tackle Christian Barmore was grabbed and pulled down to the ground, which is the definition of an offensive hold.
And on Monday morning, after having some time to watch the film, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo made his stance on things clear.
“Look, they didn’t call it. I thought he got held and I watched the film. I mean, it’s pretty clear to me, but it wasn’t called so there’s no excuses for me on that,” he told reporters.
After the game, Christian Barmore also spoke about this.
“Felt like I had good position. I felt like someone was holding my leg,” he told ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Quenton Nelson is a good player and he came and got me, but I felt like somebody was holding my leg. Real frustrating.”
For an official crew that is known for calling holds, this was a tough one to miss.
