The Los Angeles Dodgers have already made two sizable signings in free agency. They could look to bring back a former All-Star and World Series champion as well.
While outlining free agency moves for every team, The Athletic’s Andy McCullough noted that the Dodgers could potentially reunite with Joc Pederson in free agency.
“A lot can happen between now and Jan. 15, when the Chiba Lotte Marines can post Sasaki and permit him to sign with a big-league club. And the Dodgers are poised to do a lot, if they so choose, even after adding Snell. The team can still afford Soto. There are potential reunions with Walker Buehler, Teoscar Hernández, Kiké Hernández, Blake Treinen or even Joc Pederson,” wrote McCullough. “Andrew Friedman has reached the state of optionality he always craves, in which no moves are off the board and no matter what happens this winter the Dodgers will enter 2025 as the World Series favorites.”
The Dodgers signed Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal. They signed Tommy Edman a five-year, $74 million deal. Pederson would be a significantly cheaper addition. Spotrac projects him to sign a two-year, $29 million deal in free agency. Pederson had a .908 OPS last season with 26 home runs.
Defensively, Pederson does not help the Dodgers much as he only played DH last season. The Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani penciled in there so needless to say the position does not need any help. However, Pederson is a fan favorite, has postseason experience and spent seven seasons with the Dodgers.
Pederson has 130 home runs during his time on the Dodgers. He is a two-time World Series champion and two-time All-Star.
