Breaking: Mets Eye $180M Ace to Join Forces With Senga
Will the New York Mets find a way to bolster the starting rotation this winter?
New York spent last offseason looking to add bounce-back candidates on cheap, short-term deals. The Mets’ deals paid off, specifically with Sean Manaea and Luis Severino both shining. New York will need to continue adding to the rotation this winter and could do so by making a big splash.
“If there’s one person who can’t be blamed for the Orioles’ October shortcomings, it’s Burnes,” Kavner said. “Even if his strikeout rate was down, he was still every bit the ace they traded for and went out on a high note with an eight-inning, one-run wild-card performance that should have been enough for his team to secure a win.
The Mets have more money than any other team and certainly will be looking to spend this winter with the payroll getting easier to work with. Could Burnes be that guy? He certainly should be in consideration at least.
Burnes logged a 2.92 ERA across 32 starts for the Orioles in 2024. He already has four All-Star nods and one Cy Young Award under his belt at just 30 years old. He should be a priority for the Mets.
