Breaking: Packers Face Tough Decision: Bench Struggling Playmaker to Enhance Playoff Prospects
The Green Bay Packers came out on top of the Miami Dolphins on Thanksgiving night. With a big matchup with the Detroit Lions looming they may need to make some changes to who they’re putting on the field. The Packers are 9-3 and in third place in the NFC North.
While listing players the Packers need to bench to catch the Detroit Lions and make a playoff push, FanSided’s Chris Landers urged the team to bench Dontayvion Wicks.
The absence of Romeo Doubs should have been an opportunity for Wicks to turn things around. However, he continued to struggle with a big drop that was nearly intercepted. Wicks has 247 yards this season while catching less than half of his targets. Similar to Davante Adams, Wicks’ second season in the league is becoming one to forget. He is still one of the best blockers on the team, earning him snaps.
“Wicks did catch four balls for 30 yards, and he remains a very willing blocker in the Packers’ diverse running game,” wrote Landers. “But he remains maddeningly inconsistent on the outside: Once again, Wicks was responsible for a brutal drop in this game, letting a first-quarter pass from Jordan Love hit him in the chest and nearly land in a Dolphins defender’s arms for an interception.”
