Breaking: Patriots Linebacker Unleashes Fury on Fans: Linebacker’s Insensitive Comment Sparks Heated Controversy
The New England Patriots fans are upset, and rightfully so.
With Week 18 underway for the 2024 NFL season, plenty is determined in the standings. Some clubs are getting much-needed rest for their starters, others are getting one last tune-up game while some teams are looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft.
The New England Patriots happen to be one of those teams. They have just a 3-13 record through 16 games with an upcoming season finale against the Buffalo Bills, though they’re primarily facing the opposition’s second string.
The Patriots focus is on the upcoming draft as they are amid a rebuild. Year one with Jerod Mayo leading the squad didn’t go too well, though there is reason for optimism. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye happens to be one of those reasons, too.
However, New England fans are quite fed up with the current product. They recently lost a 40-7 contest to the Los Angeles Chargers, to which fans began to boo their team on the field. This led to the club’s star linebacker sending a message to the fans.
Jahlani Tavai’s “non-polite” message to Patriots fans
After receiving backlash from fans while the game was underway, Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai took exception, calling the fans out, doing so during an appearance on “The Greg Hill Show.”
“I definitely told a fan to quiet down in a non-polite way,’ Tavai said.
“There’s a reason why they’re fans. Everybody can say what they think that we should be doing. In the long end, they are not qualified to be doing what Mayo is doing.
“They’re fans. I appreciate them at times but sometimes they have just got to know their place. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
The Patriots can improve mightily this offseason
Being a rebuilding team is difficult. Fans are experiencing that in New England. However, the Patriots could soon be in a position to turn the corner. With a three-win season, they are set to hold quite a high draft position in the upcoming draft.
The best thing a club can do when in the rebuilding phase is to have a secure signal caller. Maye proved to hold some potential to give New England security as a quarterback, and they can now focus on every other aspect of roster-building with that in mind.
Not having a quarterback would set back the Patriots even more, and it’ll be interesting to see what Maye and Mayo will do together in year two, especially with an offense to tool a roster around the North Carolina product.
