Breaking: Patriots Reveal Stefon Diggs’ New Jersey Number
It’s a new era for Stefon Diggs.
The 31-year-old veteran wide receiver will be playing with a new team in 2025 after inking a three-year, $69 million deal with the New England Patriots.
He is coming off a torn right ACL injury, but optimism is still high for the franchise and its fans with hopes that Diggs can return in Week 1 of the new season in elite form.
And to get fans even more excited, the Patriots revealed the jersey number for their new No. 1 wideout.
Diggs will wear the No. 8 jersey for his new team, New England announced via social media.
It’s the first time in his pro career that he will don the No. 8 jersey.
During his time with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, Diggs wore the No. 14 jersey. Then with the Houston Texans, he was assigned the No. 1 jersey. Even in his college days with Maryland, he wore No. 14.
The new number may represent a fresh start for Diggs.
His 2024 campaign with the Texans came to an early end after he suffered the ACL injury in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts. He was on course to have another great season after logging 496 reception yards and three receiving touchdowns.
This time around, the Pro Bowl wide receiver will rely on second-year quarterback Drake Maye to have a bounce-back season and help the Patriots reach the postseason for the first time since 2021.
Diggs will also have the chance to play against his former team the Bills as both franchises are in the AFC East division.
