Breaking: Raiders Spillane Makes History, the Unbelievable Story
The Las Vegas Raiders decided to bring linebacker Robert Spillane on last season, who was undrafted but previously played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last offseason, that would become one of their biggest moves, one of the few good moves that former general manager Dave Ziegler made.
Spillane has been great in his year and a half with the Raiders, in both the run game, racking up tackles, but also in coverage, as he has four career interceptions while wearing silver and black. He’s been amazing, and against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, he was good, too, despite the loss.
Spillane is a tackle machine, and he hasn’t let being an undrafted player hold him back. In fact, he has made the very best of every single opportunity he has been given. On Sunday, he put his name in the record books with his head coach, Antonio Pierce.
Pierce is one of the most successful undrafted linebackers in the history of the game. He has a ton of tackles throughout his career in the league, paired with being a captain on a Super Bowl-winning team that had an elite defense, and actually shut down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Spillane is playing at a very high level right now, and it doesn’t seem like it will slow down anytime soon. He’s one of the best linebackers in the league, and the Raiders will soon need to give him an extension if they want to keep him on the team.
Spillane and the Raiders will take on the Cincinnati Bengals next, where their defense will need to lock in for a chance to win.
