Breaking: Rams Assemble Dream Coaching Staff with 3 Elite Coaches
The question of Matthew Stafford’s continued presence with the Los Angeles Rams in 2025 remains unanswered. However, it’s confirmed that should he return for another season, he will be working alongside Alex Van Pelt, recently announced as a senior offensive assistant by the Rams. Van Pelt brings significant experience to the role, having served as the New England Patriots offensive coordinator in 2024 and holding the same position with the Cleveland Browns for the preceding four seasons.
Los Angeles Rams Announce 2025 Coaching Staff, Includes Hall of Famer and Former Coordinators
Van Pelt is among six new additions to Sean McVay’s coaching staff, a group that the Los Angeles Rams officially announced on Monday. Van Pelt will collaborate with a comprehensive offensive team, including offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone, offensive line coach Ryan Wendell, new addition tight ends coach Scott Huff (who replaced Nick Caley0, wide receivers coach Eric Yarber, running backs coach Ron Gould, assistant offensive line coach Zak Kromer, offensive assistant Rob Calabrese, and pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase. Scheelhaase attracted significant attention as an offensive coordinator and one executive predicted he would be a head coach in two years.
Jimmy Lake, former defensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, will join the Rams as a senior defensive assistant, working alongside defensive coordinator Chris Shula. Lake was initially brought on by Raheem Morris to help shape a young and unheralded group of defenders in 2023. The squad ultimately far outperformed expectations, finishing with the 11th-best allowed success rate in the league. He left the team to join Morris in Atlanta.
The remainder of the defensive coaching staff consists of Aubrey Pleasant (assistant head coach/pass game coordinator), Giff Smith (defensive line coach/run game coordinator), Gregg Williams (inside linebackers), Chris Beake (safeties), Joe Coniglio (outside linebackers), Mike Harris (defensive assistant), Dan Shamash (NEW assistant tight ends coach/game management coordinator), and Drew Wilkins (NEW pass rush coordinator).
The Los Angeles Rams’ special teams unit will once again be led by Chase Blackburn as coordinator, with the addition of Ben Kotwica as an assistant special teams coach. Hall of Famer Mike Munchak will also continue his role as a consultant for a third consecutive season. Munchak has assisted the Rams renovate the offensive line over the last two seasons, including adding Steve Avila and Beaux Limmer in the draft, aiding Alaric Jackson’s development, and identifying Kevin Dotson as a trade candidate.
