Breaking: Rams Load up on Talent! Former First-Round Pick Joins the Fold
The Los Angeles Rams have added cornerback Emmanuel Forbes to their roster. Forbes was recently waived on Saturday by the Washington Commanders, who selected him 16th in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Despite being a highly-touted rookie, Forbes struggled to find a consistent role with the Commanders. The Rams, however, seem to believe they can help him reach his full potential. Forbes had only played a significant role on the Washington defense in three of the team’s 13 games this season under the new coaching regime of Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr.
Los Angeles Rams Add Emmanuel Forbes To Secondary
The 6 foot 1, 180-pound outside corner struggled in his first season in both coverage and tackling. He allowed a 65 percent completion rate and six plays of 25 or more yards in 14 games in his rookie season. In that year he missed 18.8 percent of his tackles, most of any starting rookie cornerback. This year he has missed 46 percent of his tackles.
With 127, the Rams are behind only the Indianapolis Colts in missed tackles this season.
Forbes will join a secondary that includes starters Cobie Durant and Darious Williams, as well as, Quentin Lake, and Kam Curl. Due to injuries, they have been heavily reliant on rookies Kamren Kinchens, Jaylen McCullough, and Josh Wallace.
The addition comes as both Troy Reeder and John Johnson III are attempting to come back from injured reserve. As ESPN’s Sarah Barshop reported: “Sean McVay said it’s possible both John Johnson III and Troy Reeder could be ready to return from IR, but that the Rams have just one spot left. McVay: “Would love to have the availability to bring them both back. It’s a tough situation [but] nobody to blame but us for that.””
