Breaking: Red Sox CBO Denies Trade Rumors Surrounding…

The Boston Red Sox need to address a number of holes this offseason if they want to become contenders for the playoffs and the World Series in the near future.

Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow will have to work within the publicly unknown budget for the Red Sox in 2025 set by owners John Henry and Tom Werner. They could continue their recent trend of trying to compete without spending big, or they could revert to their former plan of being near the top of the league in payroll.

While no one truly knows the plan, there has been a lot of scuttlebutt surrounding a potential trade of Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas which could bring a top-end starting pitcher to Boston.

“I’m not sure where that’s coming from,” Breslow said (via. MassLive). “Casas is a guy that we think has 40-home run potential. He’s young and also has a great strike zone discipline and controls an at-bat. We’re excited he’s on our team.”

While Boston certainly needs starting pitching, and they may have to part with some young talent to acquire it, Casas being the chip going out would be a bit confusing. The first baseman is coming off of a tough season that saw him miss most of the team’s games due to injury.

If the Red Sox were to sell Casas now, they’d be doing it at a low point. It may make more sense to part with a player like Jarren Duran, who is coming off of a career year.

However, this could also be seen as Breslow attempting to raise the price for Casas. We won’t know until Spring Training.
