Breaking: Richardson Cements Status as Colts’ Franchise QB: Anthony Richardson Makes History, Passing Andrew Luck’s Record
Week 16 was a week full of history being made through the run game for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts recorded the most rushing yards as a team in a single game in their franchise history, with 335 yards . They also saw Anthony Richardson take his place in their record books by doing something no Colts quarterback has ever done.
Richardson rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown during the team’s Week 16 win over the Tennessee Titans. More importantly, Richardson brought his season rushing total to 499 yards, which gave him the highest rushing total of any Colts QB in the franchise’s history for a single season. The previous single-season record for a Colts QB was held by George Taliaferro, who rushed for 479 yards in 1953 for the Baltimore Colts.
The previous record for the team’s tenure in Indianapolis was set in 2013 by Andrew Luck, who had 377 yards. Richardson’s touchdown also makes him the sole owner of the team’s single-season record for rushing touchdowns by a QB with six. The previous record was set in 2012 by Luck, who had five. This season has had its fair share of ups and downs for Richardson as a passer. But there’s no denying how special of a player he can be on the ground. And while he continues to develop as a passer, the team has to be more intentional about leaning on his ability as a runner.
