Breaking: The NBA World React to Kevin Durant’s Comments on Draymond Green’s Coaching Potential
The NBA All-Star Weekend has now come and gone after the game took place on Sunday night. Each of the 30 clubs will now get a brief break before returning to their regular season schedule.
The Phoneix Suns are up for a back half of their schedule that will see them face plenty of adversity and uncertainty.
One issue in the Valley lies in the team’s situation with Kevin Durant. They’ve got the 36-year-old forward on the roster for this season and one following season under contract, though they might be headed toward an early divorce.
At the trade deadline, the Mat Ishbia-owned Suns were looking to make an aggressive play to upgrade their roster.
As Phoenix was struggling to strike a deal, they were set to make a trade that would have sent Durant to the Golden State Warriors and landed Butler in Phoenix.
The future first-ballot Hall of Fame forward didn’t want a trade from the Suns. He had no clue he would be involved in trade talks. The relationship there might be sour now, which would be the reason for an early divorce.
Durant’s relationship with the Warriors from his previous tenure in the Bay Area was why the trade didn’t go through, too. Still, that didn’t stop the Suns forward from dishing Draymond Green a compliment at All-Star Weekend.
Green, who was partially a reason Durant had a bad exit from the Warriors, is a high-IQ basketball mind. The Suns superstar understands Green would be a good head coach one day, as he stated on Sunday.
“I think Draymond would be an incredible head coach,” Durant said.
It’ll be interesting to see how Green approaches potentially getting into coaching when his NBA playing career winds down.
For Green and Durant’s generation of players — retirement is on the horizon. Not every player is cut out to be a coach, especially in the NBA, but Durant believes Green would do a phenomenal job in the role.
