A Toronto Blue Jays prospect had a terrific day at the plate on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays selected Peyton Williams in the seventh round of the 2022 draft. Playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League, Williams went 3-4 at the plate, walking once and hitting two home runs in their 9-7 win to push their record to 6-12.
Williams’ first home run went over the batter’s eye in centre field, with the exit velocity clocking in at 106.4 mph and going 433 feet. This was the second-longest home run of the game and the fifth-highest exit velocity.
However, Williams’ second home run of the game was even more impressive. With a one-run lead in the top of the eighth, hitting a monster home run at an estimated distance of 453 feet, nearly leaving the stadium. The exit velocity of 111.7 mph was the second-highest of the game.
For the season, Williams is slashing .326/.340/.630 with three home runs in 47 plate appearances. Moreover, Williams has a 2.1 BB% and a 19.2 K%.
There were a handful of other Blue Jay prospects playing in this game. Adrian Pinto hit in the lead-off spot, going 2-6 with two singles. Eddinson Paulino didn’t play, but Kendry Rojas started the game for the Scorpions, allowing four earned runs in three innings pitched, with five strikeouts and a walk to bring his season ERA to 8.10.
Relievers T.J. Brock and Ryan Jennings also pitched in this game. Starting with the latter, he pitched a scoreless inning with two walks, picking up the win and keeping his season ERA at 0. Brock also pitched a scoreless inning while striking out two to give him a 0 ERA, but he allowed two walks in what was considered a hold.
The two pitchers who didn’t pitch for the Jays on Tuesday were Lazaro Estrada and Johnathan Lavallee. Both pitchers have had success for the Scorpions this season as well.
