An alarming situation
Just four days prior, his mother’s home was broken into while the team was in Washington D.C. to face the Wizards. The Celtics star missed practice on Tuesday to be with her, a decision driven by concern for her safety—but the scary incident still lingered up until the Bulls game.
“It’s been a tough week,” Brown said. “Obviously, my mother’s security is of the utmost importance to me, and that’s been compromised. So, it’s been a tough week. We’ve had media members and reporters outside our house trying to get an inside scoop, but have some respect. It’s been a tough week. I’m not going to lie.”
According to a source from the Wellesley Police Department, the break-in occurred on Sunday evening at the residence of the mother of the 2024 Finals MVP in Massachusetts.
The aftermath
The culprits, who appeared to have mistaken the home for the three-time All-Star, attempted to break in. While no one was injured, the shock and frustration of the situation lingered.
Police noted that a window was broken, but nothing appeared to be stolen, with the NBA star’s mother and his nephew at home during the incident. The NBA champion expressed his dismay at the media attention the situation garnered, with reporters attempting to cover the story by approaching his family’s home.
The Celtics organization addressed the incident in a statement, emphasizing their concern for the safety of players and staff.
“The safety of Celtics players, families, and staff is of the utmost importance to us. We are aware of the incident and are working with authorities. The team will have no further comment at this time,” the statement read.
The unsettling events come after a similar incident involving the team’s assistant coach, Amile Jefferson, on the same night, whose 2024 championship ring was stolen during a break-in at his Newton home.
